The Gin Kitchen is situated in the picturesque Surrey Hills, known for outstanding natural beauty and just a stone’s throw away from Box Hill. This artisan distillery, housed in a 170-year-old barn, blends traditional production methods with modern technology – from the copper pot stills that are sealed with a unique rye flour paste formula to cloud-based bookkeeping. Co-founder and Director, Kate paid particular attention to perfecting the vapour flow characteristics inside giant copper stills and developed a more efficient and controllable way of achieving a super smooth gin.
The spirits on-site are infused with only the finest ingredients sourced locally and from around the globe, featuring the finest South American tonka beans, Jamaican allspice, Iranian orange flowers and green cardamom from Guatamala.
Precision and attention to detail is the key to crafting the finest spirts at the Gin Kitchen. Handcrafted to maintain a very high standard, every bottle is given the same special attention, from the preparation of ingredients to the slow gentle distillation, right down to each bottle being numbered by hand.
There is no skipping on quality control either, which takes around three months of dedicated tasting to train the palate of a new distiller that joins the team. When a batch is complete, the Gin Kitchen team conduct an organoleptic assessment. From judging the appearance and taste to the flavour and overall finish. The process is then repeated in a glass with tonic and ice – the batch is only released if it meets the Gin Kitchen’s high standards.
With this superior approach to gin making, we knew we were in good hands when creating The Runnymede gin that has a rich, smooth and unique flavour. This dream collaboration combining fruity flavours of mango, orange, cassia bark and mint pairs perfectly with tonic (non-flavoured) to bring out the true flavours of the gin. You can sample our very own tipple while overlooking the River Thames here at the Lounge bar or terrace.
