Summertime at The Runnymede on Thames is all about the river and soaking up the best outdoor activities in the area. Here are 15 ways to enjoy alfresco weekends with us this summer.

1. Thames Path 

Found alongside our lawns, walking a stretch of the Thames Path is a perfect summertime activity. Head towards Staines for shopping and riverside pubs, or towards Windsor alongside pristine National Trust land.

2. Music and racing

Spend a little time upriver of The Runnymede this summer at the Royal Windsor Racecourse. The venue is hosting everything from a Cuban Racenight to a Rita Ora performance this summer.

3. Boating-on-Thames

Hire one of our riverboats for a River Thames adventure. Explore islands, picnic spots and all the fun of life out on the water. We’ll send you off with bespoke picnic boxes and bird seed too if you like.

4. Terrace life

Sit out on one of our terraces and watch the world go by. Whether yours is a coffee or a G&T, we’ve got it covered.

5. Runnymede Pleasure Grounds

Go for a short stroll upriver from The Runnymede to enjoy the wide open space at the Runnymede Pleasure Grounds. While the children will enjoy the playgrounds and paddling pool, adults can find a quiet spot by the river to relax.

6. Airstream treats

Our Airstream trailer will be serving drinks and snacks on warm weekends throughout the summer. From Prosecco popsicles to continental lagers, find the Airstream on our riverside lawn.

7. Take a dip

Our outdoor swimming pool* was designed for alfresco weekends. Located in a quiet setting on our grounds, enjoy our luxurious sun loungers before going for a splash.

8. Magna Carta memorials

Make the most of the weather and walk up to the Magna Carta memorials during a stay at The Runnymede. Located in gorgeous National Trust land, it’s the perfect way to spend a little time outdoors.

9. Dome Dining

Book one of our riverside domes for an evening meal that provides an intimate and luxurious treat, complete with your own private waiter for the occasion.

10. Game, set, match

Embrace tennis fever by playing a match on one of our three tennis courts. Or if you’re a diehard spectator, watch the big Wimbledon matches on our alfresco big screen.

11. Riverside BBQ

12. Set sail to Windsor

Travel upriver to Windsor in style by enjoying a boat trip from Runnymede to the town filled with royalty. The summer sees numerous trips by the French Brothers along this route.

13. Lawn games

Challenge your friends to a game of chess, Connect Four or Jenga like never before. Our oversized games can be found on our lawns right by the river.

14. King John and Robin Hood

Entertain the family with outdoor activities aplenty this summer. The National Trust at Runnymede and Ankerwycke has created a trail sheet for children to follow in the footsteps of Robin Hood to disrupt King John’s plans.

15. Magna Carta Garden

This special garden on our grounds was designed to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta. It won a bronze medal at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2015, and is now a permanent fixture at The Runnymede.

*The outdoor pool is open to hotel residents from Saturday 4th May to Sunday 1st September 2019 subject to availability and weather conditions. Entrance is free to children under 12 and for a small supplementary charge per adult per day. Please speak to our Reservations team for more details.
