1. King Henry’s Christmas Trail

Head over to the National Trust meadows at Runnymede during December to embark on a family-friendly and festive walking trail. Starting from Saturday 8 December and available daily for the rest of the month, get a trail sheet from the Magna Carta tea-room and then embark on a trail where you’ll discover how King Henry VIII would have celebrated Christmas in Tudor times.

4. Christmas at Windsor Castle

The world’s oldest occupied castle will be home to a whole host of Christmas activities throughout December. Take in the castle’s festive display – which centres on the 20ft Nordmann Fir tree, watch after-hours performances of The Princess and the Pantomime in the State Apartments, and take the children to festive arts and crafts workshops every Saturday throughout the month. Nothing says ‘Christmas’ like going to watch a panto and this year the Theatre Royal Windsor is putting on Dick Whittington. Join in with some slapstick fun to get that Christmassy feeling throughout the month.

6. Christmas Table Decoration Lunch

Join us at The Runnymede on Monday 10 December for a lunch where you’ll also learn how to make your own table decorations. Lily’s Flowers will demonstrate how to create the perfect Christmas table centrepiece with winter flowers and foliage. You’ll also be able to tuck into a welcome drink, two-course lunch with a glass of wine and tea or coffee.

7. Christmas Race Days

Head over to the racecourse at Royal Ascot for some festive race days on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 December. As well as horse racing, there will be festive menus, winter cocktails, brass bands and complimentary mince pies for everyone. The Saturday will be a day of family fun, with visits from Father Christmas and his reindeer, storytelling by Mrs Claus, pony rides, huskies, carol concerts and fairground rides.

8. Windsor on Ice

Throughout December, wrap up warm and head over to Windsor’s seasonal ice rink at Alexandra Gardens. Found near Windsor’s main shopping area, this is a fun way to have a festive pit-stop while Christmas shopping. There are even ice skating coaching lessons for those who want to brush up on their skills.

9. Christmas Party Night

Join the National Trust’s Christmassy workshops in Runnymede on 5 December to learn how to make festive wreaths from the materials nature provides. Using holly and some fantastically named shrubs such as old man’s beard and butcher’s broom, you’ll come away with your very own unique creation.
