A month of Saturday family activities kicks off at Windsor Castle over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend. Given the forthcoming wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the castle on 19th May, the theme is to celebrate centuries of royal weddings. With art workshops, fun wedding tiaras and ceremonial swords, children can get creative and play dress-up while learning about the royal history of weddings.
Chertsey Museum is hosting free family craft activities on Saturday 5 May during the Early May Bank Holiday weekend. Just a 10-minute drive from The Runnymede on Thames, bring the little ones along between 13:30 and 15:30.
The museum is also hosting The Rivers of Runnymede exhibition between 24th March and 27th October, so it’s the perfect opportunity to explore the highlights of local inhabitants and river life in the area that we call ‘home’ too.
On for one night only on Sunday 6th May, Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra is playing at Theatre Royal Windsor. A live show full of classic hits and special effects, this is the perfect way to celebrate a Sunday night that doesn’t lead to a Monday morning at work.
On the Early May Bank Holiday itself, Royal Windsor Racecourse is holding its much-loved Family Fun Day. A funfair of free rides includes everything from dodgems and bouncy castles, to an inflatable assault course, face painting and live music. For the adults, seven horse races will be taking place; ideal for having a flutter while enjoying a drink.
Just a 25-minute drive from The Runnymede on Thames is Brooklands Museum, a famous former racing circuit, as well as the birthplace of British motorsport and aircraft. Brooklands Museum is a fascinating place to explore at the best of times, but on the 7th May Bank Holiday, it’s playing host to Emergency Services Day. With vehicles and apparatus available to explore, this will make a fascinating day out for the whole family.
Approximately a 20-minute drive from The Runnymede on Thames is one of the best gardens in the UK at Wisley. As well as the blooming flowers and greenery, there will be a craft fair happening throughout the Early May Bank Holiday weekend. With original and traditional crafts available to buy, demonstrations and delicious food, this is a must-visit over the long weekend.
From crafts to castles, and horse racing to car racing, this Bank Holiday weekend has got something to suit every taste.
