1. Picturesque riverside location

Nothing says romance more than being by the water. The Runnymede on Thames is located on a pretty stretch of the River Thames, where our verdant lawns meet the riverside towpath. Watch the boat life go by and simply enjoy the peace of the water.

2. Coffee and a chat

Taking time out from your hectic lives to catch up is a must-do on a romantic weekend away. Enjoy the opportunity to have a proper conversation over a coffee in The Lounge. Complete with a living room feeling with homely décor and book-laden shelves, it’s a place to feel comfortable in a home-from-home, but without the chores and distractions of home.

3. Blow away the cobwebs

Make the most of our location by the river and enjoy a walk along the River Thames towpath. The most charming walk is to turn left from our lawns onto the path and enjoy the boating life of Bell Weir Lock, before walking alongside the wide-open stretch of the Thames. After a short meander, you’ll reach the vast Runnymede Pleasure Ground and its views over an attractive curve in the river.

4. Spa

The Spa at The Runnymede on Thames is the ideal spot to while away an afternoon with your loved one. There’s a swimming pool, whirlpool bath, saunas, a eucalyptus steam room and loungers to kick back on and read a good book. There are plenty of treatments specifically for men as well as women: try the ESPA Gentleman’s Revitaliser for him along with the ESPA Aromatherapy Full Body for her.

5. Gin and tonic

No great love story ever started with a soft drink! Our Gin and Tonic menu is ideal for an early evening drink with your other half, with a number of inventive combinations to choose from. Try a White Night for him, with Blackwoods Vintage Dry Gin and Fever-Tree Mediterranean tonic water, garnished with orange zest. For her, Thanks Victoria is just the ticket, with Warner Edwards Rhubarb Gin and Fever-Tree ginger ale, garnished with fresh rhubarb.

6. Romantic meal

An evening meal for two at The Lock Bar and Kitchen is ideal for couples. Our AA Rosette restaurant serves seasonal flavours in an enchanting interior. Take a look at our latest menu and travel around the world through our carefully curated wine menu to complete the meal.

7. Sumptuous rooms

At the end of a romantic day, there’s nothing like retreating to a room full of all the creature comforts you could want. Our comfortable 4* hotel rooms have sumptuous beds by Hypnos, cosy toppers, non-allergenic duvets and luxurious pillows by Tielle. Bathrooms come well stocked with ESPA shower and hair products. And…relax.

8. De-stress through leisure

After a good night’s sleep, find some stress relief with your loved one through some of our leisure activities. You could visit our fitness centre – full of Technogym equipment – or head out to one of our three tennis courts for a friendly match. Letting your competitive side out is healthy in any relationship…in moderation, of course.

9. Gardens

The Runnymede on Thames is full of surprises, with lots of little corners to explore. Stroll hand-in-hand through our small fruit orchard and then discover the Runnymede Surrey Magna Carta 800th Anniversary Garden. It was created by acclaimed landscape designers Patricia Thirion and Janet Honour and won a bronze medal at Chelsea Flower Show in 2015.

10. Boating-on-Thames

While the weather’s still mild enough, hire one of our boats and go on a romantic excursion along the River Thames. The Antaris Sixty6 Launch is popular with couples, with its fully collapsible roof for sunny days. There is also a drinks cooler and a Bluetooth stereo. Take one of our snack boxes out with you to make a day of it for just the two of you.
