Celebrating International Women’s Day 2023 with Sue Wolton

International Women's Day is celebrated globally on the 8th March - a day that’s dedicated to uplifting the incredible achievements of women around the world, reinforcing a commitment to women's equality and recognising the empowering females in our day-to-day lives. To commemorate International Women’s Day 2023 at The Runnymede, we sat down with a familiar face that many of us here are truly inspired by, our General Manager, Sue Wolton

Sue

Hi Sue, what would you say has inspired you to get where you are today?

My lecturer at Queen’s College and most of all the Board at Ralph Trustees for whom I worked for many years.

What words of wisdom did female relatives share with you when growing up?

My aunt was one of the first female doctors at Med School in Edinburgh many moons ago and she always told me that I would need to work hard to counter any bias and success would come as a result of a good work ethic and always looking after your colleagues.

Who is your female role model?

There is no one female role model ; I think there are many inspirational women in many fields all of whom I /we can learn from or aspire to.

Has there been a moment in your life where you’ve felt proud to be female? If so, what was it?

No one moment! Every moment in life!

What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?

Always remain true to your values and always remember to put yourselves in ‘others shoes’…be kind …success can manifest itself  in many different guises…the two are not mutually exclusive.
