Autumn Facial Tips

Autumn has arrived, and as we prepare for temperatures to drop and for days to shorten, we must prepare our skin. The change from being warm indoors to stepping outside to cold weather can really affect your skin, so take a look at our autumn facial tips to ensure your skin is healthy and glowing for the new season.

Tip 1: Try Facial Steamers

The benefits of steaming are more than skin deep. Steaming can help unblock pores, ease out embedded dirt and toxins and boost circulation, which in turn promotes collagen and elastin reproduction. Best of all, a steam treatment is relaxing and satisfying. Although our sauna and steam room are unfortunately still closed, there are many home steamers available to purchase that are a safe, timed and effective way of achieving great results. We advise one of the following over the ‘bowl of boiling water and a towel’ method which can cause damage if the water is too hot, your eyes are exposed or you steam for too long.

Sarah Chapman Steamer

Compact and effective, this steamer includes high tech features such as ionic and ultra-sound technology. The fine mist gently opens pores and leaves the skin feeling hydrated and soft. It can be used with tap water and has a pre-programmed 5 minute function, although for a deeper cleanse you can steam for 10 minutes, perfect for more congested pores or a dull complexion.

EZBASICS Nano Steam

The EZBASICS Facial Steamer combines nano steam with ionic water particles, which is up to 10 times more effective in penetrating skin than basic hot water steamers. The direction of the nozzle and steam flow is adjustable to create your perfect at home facial. Plus, you can add a few drops of essential oil and make use of the machine’s built-in aromatherapy tablets.

Tip 2: Exfoliate

Autumn is the time of year when we really do need to prepare the skin for drier air and the changing climate of warm indoors and cold outside, as well as repairing any summer damage. Nothing does this better than the introduction of regular exfoliation. Exfoliation gently removes dry, dead skin cells – and fading, peeling sun tans – and stimulates circulation, bringing fresh oxygen to the skin’s upper layers, helping to regenerate skin cells. We have two favourites for the new season, ask a member of our spa team about purchasing one of these products next time you are at the Spa.

Guinot Gommage Biologique

This exfoliating gel transforms into an oil as it is rubbed into the skin. Its smooth texture and gentle exfoliation makes it the perfect option for those with sensitive skin.

Espa Pro-Cleanser

As well as an exfoliator, this gel acts as a cleanser and mask that will nourish, smooth and brighten your complexion, leaving skin radiant.

Tip 3: Indulge In An Autumn Facial

The most indulgent way to get your skin ready for Autumn is a luxurious and relaxing facial. We have created the Autumn Glow Facial, which uses handpicked ESPA products that are rich in oils and nutrients to help restore hydration levels and leave the skin soft and smooth. This facial includes a double cleanse, Pro-cleanser exfoliation, aromatherapy warm oil facial and scalp massage, a hydrating face and eye mask, proserum and application of moisturizer. The facial lasts 75 minutes, is £85 and can be booked between 1 October and 15 November. To book, please call 01784 220973 or email spareception@therunnymede.co.uk.
