Epsom Downs racecourse offers some of the best racing in the world with a fixture list of race days running between April and September.
Records of horseracing at Epsom date back to the mid-1600s following the lift of the horserace ban under the Commonwealth. Famously known for the Epsom Derby, this race event was established in 1780. The spotlight was thrown onto the Derby in 1913, when a protesting suffragette, Emily Davison, ran onto the course and brought down King George V’s horse.
Attended by Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II, the Derby is a highlight of the horseracing calendar.
