The name Aquitaine is inspired by Eleanor of Aquitaine, wife of King Henry II, and mother of King Richard the Lionheart and his unfortunate brother King John - famed for reluctantly signing the Magna Carta on the Runnymede meadows, right opposite where the Runnymede Hotel & Spa now stands. Eleanor of Aquitaine can be described as a true superwoman of her time.

Not only was she Queen of both of France and England in her lifetime, but she lived to the age of 80 – almost unheard of in the middle-ages. So she is a fitting inspiration for today’s multi-tasking woman, and a private luxury day spa suite where the goal is to ensure that guests leave with their minds and bodies re-charged, ready for anything!
